The House of Photography

The first place we are this afternoon is The House of Photography, located in a beautifully restored traditional Moroccan riad in the Medina, not too far from our hotel. The architecture of the building features intricate tilework, carved wooden doors, and decorative arches typical of Moroccan design. The internal courtyard is adorned with a central fountain and lush greenery, creating a tranquil and inviting atmosphere.

The museum is dedicated to the history and culture of photography in Morocco. It houses a collection of historic photographs, glass negatives, cameras, and related artifacts dating from 1870 to 1960, and offers visitors the opportunity to explore the development of photography in Morocco and its impact on the country's culture and history.

Pierwszym miejscem, które odwiedzamy tego popołudnia, jest Dom Fotografii, mieszczący się w pięknie odrestaurowanym tradycyjnym marokańskim riadzie w Medynie, całkiem niedaleko od naszego hotelu. W architekturze budynku zwracają uwagę piękne kafelki, rzeźbione drewniane drzwi i dekoracyjne łuki typowe dla stylu marokańskiego. Wewnętrzny dziedziniec ozdobiony jest centralną fontanną i bujną zielenią.

Muzeum poświęcone jest historii fotografii w Maroku i zawiera kolekcję historycznych fotografii, szklanych negatywów, aparatów fotograficznych i powiązanych artefaktów z lat 1870–1960, oferując zwiedzającym wgląd w rozwój fotografii w Maroku i jej wpływ na kulturę i historię kraju.

The rooftop terrace, where a little café is located, offers a nice view of the city and a peaceful retreat from the relentless heat. We relax with a glass of fresh orange juice and take in the beauty of Marrakech.

Z tarasu na dachu, na którym znajduje się mała kawiarnia, roztacza się ładny widok na miasto, a cień i powiewy wiatru oferują wytchnienie od nieubłaganego upału. Relaksujemy się przy szklance świeżego soku pomarańczowego i podziwiamy piękno Marrakeszu.

Moroccan tea

Ugh, it's a scorcher today - temperatures are in the 40s! We decided to beat the heat by retreating to our riad for a short rest. As usual, they whipped up a delicious Moroccan tea for us in no time. I'll save the full review of our riad for another post, but let's just say it's absolutely amazing.

Matko, jakie dzisiaj są upały – temperatury sięgają czterdziestu stopni! Jesteśmy już tak wyrąbani od tego gorąca, że postawiamy wpaść do naszego riadu na krótki odpoczynek. Jak zwykle w mgnieniu oka przygotowali dla nas pyszną marokańską herbatę. Pełną recenzję naszego riadu zachowam na inny post, ale powiedzmy sobie wprost, że jest on zajefajny.

A very good morning

Breakfast at Ennafoura makes for a lovely start to the day. The food is fresh, delicious, and served beautifully. Today, we don't have to rush as our first destination is just a few steps away, allowing us to enjoy total bliss.

Śniadania w Ennafoura to zawsze znakomity początek dnia. Jedzenie jest świeże, smaczne i pięknie podane. Dziś nie musimy się spieszyć, gdyż do pierwszego punktu zwiedzania mamy zaledwie kilka kroków. Zatem śniadanie jest leniwe i bardzo przyjemne.

Cooling down

It is an especially hot day today, even for Marrakesh, so after our visit to the Gueliz we decided to cool down in the plunge pool on the roof. The benefit of a small riad is that there is a huge chance you will have facilities all to yourself. Today is no exception. It is just us and birds, and muezzins’ call for prayer from the mosques nearby.

Dziś jest wyjątkowo gorący dzień, nawet jak na Marrakesz, więc po wizycie w Gueliz postanowiliśmy ochłodzić się w basenie na dachu. Jedną z zalet małego riadu jest to, że istnieje ogromna szansa, iż będziesz mieć miejsca publiczne tylko dla siebie. I dzisiaj nie ma pod tym względem wyjątku. Na tarasie jesteśmy tylko my, i slychać jedynie ptaki i wołanie muezinów zapraszające do modlitwy.

An attempt to use feet as a tripod was not exactly a success.

Próba użycia stóp jako statywu, niestety nie zakończyła się sukcesem.

Museum of Marrakesh

Our next destination is the Dar Mnebhi palace from the late nineteenth century, a great example of classical Andalusian architecture, housing the Museum of Marrakesh.

Po lunchu kierujemy się do pałacu Dar Mnebhi z końca XIX wieku, wspaniałego przykładu klasycznej architektury andaluzyjskiej, w którym mieści się Muzeum Marakeszu.

First, we go to see a beautiful smaller traditional courtyard.  Rooms around this courtyard contain the museum’s collection of paintings.

Najpierw idziemy zobaczyć piękny, mniejszy, tradycyjny dziedziniec. Pomieszczenia wokół tego dziedzińca zawierają kolekcję malarstwa.

More paintings are presented in the old hammam and kitchen.

Kolejne obrazy są wystawione w starej łaźni tureckiej i kuchni.

The most impressive part of this building is a massive patio with a magnificent brass chandelier adorned with ornate geometric and arabesque motifs.  Nowadays fully paved and roofed over; in the past, it used to be an open garden planted with trees and flowers. The patio has a few fountains and is decorated with zelliij (zellige) tilework, stained glass and carved cedar wood.

Najbardziej imponującą częścią budynku jest ogromne patio ze wspaniałym mosiężnym żyrandolem ozdobionym bogatymi motywami geometrycznymi i arabeskowymi. Obecnie patio ma położoną mozaikową  podłogę i jest zadaszone, w przeszłości znajdował sie tutaj otwarty ogród obsadzony drzewami i kwiatami. Patio posiada kilka fontann i jest ozdobione kafelkami zelliij (zellige), witrażami i rzeźbionym drewnem cedrowym.

The rooms around the courtyards, some adorned with beautiful stucco and wood decorations, are filled with weapons, clothes, pottery and other traditional Moroccan objects.

Pokoje wokół dziedzińców, niektóre ozdobione pięknymi dekoracjami stiukowymi i drewnianymi, są wypełnione bronią, ubraniami, ceramiką i innymi tradycyjnymi przedmiotami.
